Carbiotix (publ) ("Carbiotix" or the "Company") announces today that the Company has commenced a pre-study with a leading US food & beverage producer with a turnover exceeding 2 billion USD. This NutraCycle pre-study is the first step when working with food & beverage companies to determine if a side-stream product can be upcycled into a prebiotic that can be primarily utilized in the fortification of new and existing products. The pre-study is typically completed within a 3-month period and includes initial lab and pilot scale product & process development work and microbial validation. Successful completion of pre-studies paves the way for NutraCycle Joint Development and Service Agreements between Carbiotix and its partner.

Erik Deaner, CEO of Carbiotix, comments:
“I am very happy to announce that Carbiotix has commenced the Company’s first official NutraCycle pre-study with a leading US food & beverage producer after the recent launch of the service. This pre-study demonstrates an interest in the NutraCycle service, as well as the knowledge, technologies and partner networks Carbiotix has developed. The company in question has a turnover exceeding 2 billion USD and is a leader in their respective segment both in terms of geographic presence and market share. The NutraCycle service can however be leveraged by all food & beverage producers that process plant-based raw materials and generate side stream products that could be upcycled into prebiotic ingredients.

The benefits of the NutraCycle service for food & beverage companies are severalfold. It is a relatively low cost and low risk approach to generating new revenue streams and achieving higher pricing power for existing products. For example, it is an opportunity to upcycle side stream products into high value prebiotics that can be used to fortify existing products, develop new products, and be sold as an ingredient, as well increase the relative protein content and value of residuals.

The NutraCycle pre-study is the first step when working with food & beverage companies to determine if a side-stream product can be upcycled into a prebiotic that can be primarily utilized in the fortification of new and existing products. The pre-study is typically completed within a 3-month period and includes initial lab and pilot scale product & process development work and microbial validation. Successful prestudies lead to NutraCycle Joint Development and Service Agreements between Carbiotix and a food & beverage producer. At this stage, Carbiotix provides support with regards to process design - based upon Carbiotix IP and trade secret, operation and optimization, product development, the sale of ingredients and residuals, scientific validation and regulations, and financing solutions through partners if needed.

Since Carbiotix is paid via a royalty fee based upon the prebiotic product produced following industry norms, the NutraCycle service is a very cost-effective way for food & beverage producers to access and leverage the technology portfolio of Carbiotix and its partners to generate more value and remain competitive in a market increasingly focused on health and well-being.

I look forward to ramping up marketing and sales activities of the NutraCycle service and allow both large and small plant-based food & beverage producers to discover the benefits of maximizing the value of their side stream products in a prebiotic upcycling model that is simply more sustainable.
